HISTORY

Since the very beginning, Salem Sports has been devoted to making special events much more special. We really know our stuff!

 

In April of 1984, John Sullivan left his position at R.J. Reynolds to start his own business, Sports Management Services, and used his knowledge and creativity to fill the void he discovered.

 

As business increased, so did the product line and in 1997, John decided to change the business name to Salem Sports Signs, Inc. The new inventory consisted of; monster scoreboards, sand-blasted signs, and hand-painted locator boards. In three years’ time the company saw dramatic growth, having to build a new facility to accommodate the increase in sales.

 

In 2003, we transitioned from hand-painted locator boards and sand-blasted signs to more modern graphics and digital printers. It was around this time that we manufactured our first hospitality environment. Seeing as we were no longer solely a sign shop anymore, in 2004 the company name became Salem Sports, Inc. (Salem). That same year we introduced our sister company, Salem Fabrication, that provided metal fabrication for us, as well as for other wholesale sign shops. Sales increased so rapidly, that after only three years in business, Salem Fab’s primary customer was us! The two companies merged at the end of 2007, posting sales of five million dollars. In April of 2009, after 25 wonderful years, John retired and sold his business to Jeff and Kim Ickes.

 

Today

 

The event world is ever-changing, and Salem Sports has evolved with it.

 

In September of 2019, the Ickes’ partnered with INV, LLC and we were once again rebranded as the now-familiar Salem Sports Events, LLC. Today, we are known as an identity services provider and event activation firm.  We offer a wide range of graphics, event branding, and custom interiors for well-known events and private corporate clients. With a staff of more than 50 professionals, we provide site planning, graphic design, 3-D rendering, fabricated signage, illuminated signage, vinyl and digital signage, on-site installation, interior designs, interior construction, on-site custom construction, transportation, and storage. We are very proud of the fact that our consistent collective goal is to deliver high-end, custom-built products to meet our customers’ specific requirements both professionally and on time.

 

Some of our current event partners include THE PLAYERS Championship, Tour Championship, The Presidents Cup and World Golf Championships. Brands that we have worked closely with include FedEx, Coca-Cola, Nike, Bank of America, Charles Schwab, AT&T and Tito’s Vodka, to name just a few.  We at Salem Sports strongly believe in extensive collaboration, thoughtful and detailed planning, and skilled professional execution, with superior customer service throughout the entire process. That continues to be, and has always been, the foundation of our company.
